The Bonner Milltown area is a collection of neighborhoods, old and new. The cleanup, restoration, and redevelopment of the Clark Fork and Blackfoot rivers and their confluence and the shut down and subsequent sale of the mill has brought unprecedented change to this once stable community in the span of a decade. Change can be unsettling, but it offers tremendous potential as well. These stories chronicle events as they are unfolding.

Dr. Steve Running speaks on the science of climate change on Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m., Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Bonner. Dr. Running is a UM professor and member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for research on the science of climate change.
The free public presentation considers the evidence supporting the conclusion that man's activities are the root cause of the accelerating trend in climate change including weather and important features of our planet.
Dr. Running will also briefly consider human activities in our region and their relationship to climate change: Biomass utilization; tar sands oil extraction.
"Considering Climate Change" is part of the Sustainability Series sponsored by Friends of 2 Rivers. For more information call Gary Matson, 370-6584 or visit www.friendsof2rivers.org.

What is happening outside?
Great horned owls begin nesting.
On warmer days, snow flies, Chionea valga, can be seen crawling over the snow. Though they may look like spiders, they only have 6 legs and are most closely related to the crane fly.
Bear cubs are born.
Look for snowshoe hare tracks when out xc skiing or snowshoeing in conifer forests. The hares winter diet consists of conifer buds and shrub bark that are made accessible by the rising platform of snow.
