CHILDREN AND NATURE NETWORK OFFERS CROSS-COUNTRY SKI DAY (Missoula, Montana) – Missoula Children and Nature (MCN) gets you outside before you get in the game on Super Bowl Sunday with a free cross-country ski outing for children and their families from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on February 6, 2011. Participants will learn to cross-country ski, explore Missoula’s Pattee Canyon Recreation Area, and learn about winter ecology. Sponsored by Missoula Outdoor Learning Adventures (MOLA) and led by their professional staff of outdoor educators, this family cross-country ski outing is part of MCN’s “Got Nature?” monthly passport program. Interested participants should call MCN event coordinator Ian Foster at 396-9562 to reserve their free cross-country ski gear before 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4th. MOLA staff will meet the group at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Dornblaser Field parking lot, located at the corner of South Ave. and S. Higgins Ave. in Missoula. Participants who have their own equipment may meet the group at Dornblaser or join up at 1:00 p.m. at the Pattee Canyon main trailhead. This introductory activity is designed for those who have little or no cross-country skiing experience, although all Missoula-area youth are encouraged to participate. It is free and open to children aged 6 years and up; however, all children must be accompanied by an adult. Children who attend this event will receive a “Got Nature?” passport card stamp; completed passport cards are redeemable for an award. Missoula Outdoor Learning Adventures is an organization dedicated to connecting people – especially youth – with the outdoors. Missoula Children and Nature (MCN) is an affiliation of organizations, agencies, businesses, and individuals committed to the goal of connecting youth with the natural world. Each month, MCN offers one or more free, family-oriented, nature-based events through the “Got Nature?” passport program.
