Joe Devlin: Joe’s love of the outdoors, hunting, camping, and fishing led him down unexpected paths. As a  teenager in Oregon, Joe answered the recruiting ads of the National Ski Association and volunteered for Army duty in World War II and service in the elite 10th Mountain Division. Joe, his wife Kay, and their 5 children came to Missoula in the mid 1960’s and ultimately to West Riverside. Now retired, Joe is familiar to friends and neighbors who greet him on his daily walks.  Joe became informed on the issues of the Superfund cleanup and joined Friends of Two Rivers shortly after it formed.

Chuck Erickson was born in Missoula and went to Franklin Grade School.  On his mother’s  side he is a 7th generation native of the Missoula and Bitterroot Valley.  His father came from a large close family so as a small child he spent most of his time with family in Milltown. He graduated from Missoula County High School.

Chuck served in the Navy as a Salvage Diver and Instructor on Guam and in Viet Nam.  Upon returning to Missoula he started the first Search and Rescue Dive Team under Sheriff John Moe.

Chuck moved to Milltown in his high school years and has lived in this area since.  He has a Master Plumbers license and works in the HVAC field as a service technician with 38 years experience.  He has been an Instructor for Local 459 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union for over 30 years.

He is a member of Friends of 2 Rivers, The Redevelopment Working Group, and has been newly elected to the Community Council.

Mary Erickson: Mary Erickson is a founding member of Friends of Two Rivers. She and Chuck experience the cleanup and restoration “close up and personal” from their place on the Clark Fork River. In addition to tending the home place, a large garden, 7 horses, and 3 dogs, Mary is on the Milltown Redevelopment Working Group and volunteers in her church, local community, and professional organizations as well as working full time as Marketing Director at the Courtyard by Marriott.

Sue Furey: Sue Furey is usually on the run. Although she competes in triathlons, trains for the Missoula Marathon, and chairs the local Super Fun(d) Run, Sue saves energy for involvement in local activities and is a member of the Milltown Redevelopment Working Group. She also serves as Department Chair of Life Skills at Sentinel, Special Olympics advisor, and representative for the Montana Education Association. Sue and husband Tim live in Piltzville.

Warren Hampton was born in Missoula. He attended Clinton Elementary School, Sentinel High School, and received his architecture degree from Montana State University.

After working in Montana for some years, he moved to Arizona. He obtained a graduate degree from The University of Arizona and was a faculty member until he returned to Montana in 2001 to work for OZ Architects in Missoula.

Warren has attended the Milltown Redevelopment Working Group meetings for several years. He lives on the "home place" in Turah.

Maria Ibarbia: Maria moved to Piltzville from Seattle in 2006. She has taught writing and multicultural literature at the community college level and has been a development director for non-profits. Maria will begin serving on the Bonner-Milltown Community Council this spring. She volunteers for the Sierra Club and is the president of the Missoula Business Professional Women’s Association. Maria enjoys kayaking, hiking, traveling, cooking and engaging friends and family with her husband and best buddy, Michael Jarnevic.  They have two boys, a wily Russian Blue-mix named Piotyr the Great and a lovably neurotic wire-haired fox terrier named Maxsim.

Gary Matson: Gary came to Montana from Nebraska in 1967 to attend grad school at UM partly because UM had the only college catalog with mountains on its cover. He became active in environmental concerns, his environmental awareness enhanced by the first Earth Day in 1970 and the belief  that humans do have the right to a “clean and healthful environment” as stated in our Montana Constitution. Gary and his wife Judy raised their two children in West Riverside. He established and still operates Matson’s Lab, a wildlife laboratory offering analytical services for wildlife conservation. He is a member of the Milltown Redevelopment Working Group and will begin his second term on the Community Council this spring.

Alison Mynsberge & Shawn Crimmins: Alison and Shawn are sharing a position on the board.  Alison is a research assistant in Forestry at UM, where Shawn is a Ph.D. student.  Although both are originally from the Midwest, they met in Montana and fell in love with each other – and the state – in 2004.  They relocated to Missoula County from West Virginia in 2008.  Having previously lived within 25 miles of several coal-fired power plants and waded in streams glowing orange from acid mine drainage, they were impressed with the region’s concern for the environment and are thrilled to be involved with Friends of 2 Rivers.  They are also involved with the Milltown Garden Patch and the Redevelopment Working Group.

Senta Sandberg and her husband Craig have lived in West Riverside since 1993.

“Little did we know that the community we were moving to was so much more than a place a short distance from Missoula,” said Senta. “We are a blue collar couple raising our boys here. I work at Costco, and have for 11 years. Craig works at Smurfit Stone.

“The real reason we love living where we do is we are close to our hobbies. I am a painter, and my boys are fishermen. We as a family also like to grow a garden.

“We are very excited about all the changes that have been happening in the Bonner area, and look forward to seeing more.”

Mark & Jennifer Slayden: The Slaydens are sharing a position on the board. Jennifer is a Professional Life Coach and music teacher and composer. Mark’s profession as a fishing guide reflects his love of the outdoors which is shared by the whole family. Jennifer, children Grace and Riley and niece Maddi are members of the popular string band Blue Mountain Music Makers and have performed at HOOKed on Art, Community at the Confluence and other local and area venues.
