Healthy Interest Sparks Contested Council, School Board Elections on May 5
Community - Community Council
Written by Gary Matson
Bonner School District 14 residents will have the luxury of having a number of candidates from which to choose for positions on both the Bonner School Board and the Bonner Milltown Community Council.
Board of Trustees election only ballot issue this year
Each of the School Board candidates has one or more students attending Bonner School.  Bonner School has always been a cornerstone of community life for local residents, and it is good to have volunteers willing to share their time and interest in keeping our local school district the “Best”.  This election, there are five candidates running for two positions on the Board:
Tom DiNoia, Michelle Mitchell (incumbent), Wade Parker, Dan Taylor (incumbent), and  Joe Turk
School District residents will be happy to know that no special mill levy or other funding proposal is on this year’s ballot.  The School Board and administration have kept their accounting pencils sharp, and expect to be able to fund a robust educational program for our students without any additional mill levy.
Community Council has two vacant seats
Residents are similarly blessed with having a full slate of Bonner Milltown Community Council candidates.  The election of Council members will be at the same time as that of the School Board.
The Council was established by an approving vote of local residents in the spring of 2006 and had its initial meeting September 5th of that year.  The Council is an advisory body to the County Commissioners, with the charge of providing communication between the Commissioners and local residents.  An important role for the Council has been as a place for government agencies and private organizations to obtain local public input.  Even though advisory, the Council has important influence upon the course of projects and proposals that affect local residents.  Two Council members will be retiring:  Ken Peers and Cathy Whitman.
Five candidates have filed for the two positions: Chuck Erickson, David Max, Josh Patterson,  Bob Starr, and Mark Wildung.
These are important “grass roots” elections for Bonner/Milltown area community residents.  Please vote May 5th!
